Housing Advice for Young People
Sessions for Y10 students at Rawmarsh Community School
FRicochet is our local Shelter provision in Rotherham providing housing advice for young people.
Through their Peer Education programme they give young people who have had housing problems the chance to talk to others about their experiences. This is to help stop other young people getting into the same difficulties, or, if they do have problems, they will at least know where to go for help.
Rawmarsh as a community has a particularly high incidence of family breakdown and @15% of the referrals to Richochet are by young people from our area.
Therefore the Richochet Peer Education programme is working with our Y10 students during PHSE time.
During the sessions students have looked at the causes of homelessness through activities and case-studies. The sessions provide opportunities for our students to interact with other young people who have the background of experiencing homelessness this helps our students to challenge prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping. These young people have trained as peer educators and running the sessions with students in school is helping them to access a qualification and work experience.
